chocolat, anyone?

i watched chocolat, finally.
remember the newspaper gave very good reviews.
well, i am not a movie person, stingy cos dun wanna spend my 8 bucks on a movie. now the ticket prices increasing further.
so think wont see me in a movie theatre. haha.
the chocs looked deliciously sinful. slurp.
the plot is very engaging.
at first thought that it might be slow paced and boring cos stories set in the olden days are usually like that.
but i was pleasantly surprised.
yet again, cos i watched pleasantville and had the same feelings.
chocolat is about a mother and daughter who moved from place to place to save and heal people in an unorthodox way.
the mother sold chocolates and made friends through her shop.
they arrived in a small village and became the instant enemy of the count in charge of the place.
they sold food during the fasting period and did not attend church.
of course, things would always turn out fine in the end.
there are a few things i did not understand in the show. so maybe someone can enlighten me:
1. what happened to the count's wife?
2. is it a tradition for the wife to leave the husband and help to heal people?
3. wat exactly is the moral of the story? accept differences in people?
sorry i missed some parts of the show while channel surfin during commercial breaks.

hey wenyu.. read the book.. it's even better than the movie.. u'll find that the movie took some liberties with changing the story.. in the book.. the count was actually the priest.. and there was no wife.. one can assume that the count's wife had walked out on him? the book also explains why vianne and her daughter wander without a husband.. she was never married i believe.. go read the book!
