Smelly beancurd

Has anyone tried the smelly beancurd from taiwan? It really stinks!!!You can smell it from a distance. It smells rubbishy to me. But being an adventurous foodie, i must give it a try. Judging from the queue, singaporeans are an adventurous lot too. Erm, the smell is terrible but it tastes like normal tofu. In a way, if you pinch your nose and swallow it, you wont feel that it is a special tofu.

At the river hongbao, you can try this tofu along with other interesting foods. Singaporeans truly love to eat and there are so many stalls to choose from. Gosh, no wonder there are still food shows to introduce more new foods. I confess i am one of those who love to watch such shows and then jio frens to try. I live to eat!

Bargain

Okie i am oredi displaying my auntie traits. Gosh, so embarrassing. But i dun mind being an auntie. Auntie very li4 hai4 (p0werful) one. Bargaining skills superb.

i wanted to buy some vcds to watch over the cny period and decided to try my luck at the store in front of the jewellery shop. this was wat happened...

Miss Bargain stood in front of the table and started to pick up the box sets of k dramas.

Uncle praised whichever title i picked up and said it was a good buy. (it was not going to affect my decision. i knew which title i wanted. checked it out at poh kim before. opps another auntie trait--comparing prices. pretty soon i can tell u all wat are the different prices of veg at the various supermarkets)

Miss bargain: can sell it to me at $15? (box set was priced at 18 bucks for 22 cds. oredi a good bargain)

Uncle: Cannot lah. Not earning much.

Miss bargain pretended to think deeply.

Uncle's fren at the store: very cheap oredi. cos the rent here is lower than at the shoppin centre. just buy lah!

Miss bargain din reply, still fingering the box set.

Uncle: sell at 18 bucks very cheap liao. cost price 15.50. i sell u 15 bucks cannot lah.

Miss bargain (still dun wanna give up): how about u give me one dollar discount?

Uncle: (kept quiet for a while) sell to you at 16 bucks will be too cheap

Miss bargain sighed and handed over twenty dollars.

Then uncle gave her 4 bucks change!!!

Bargain successful. To her disbelief. Thanks uncle.

Romantic musings

After watchin the show, devil by my side, by rainie yang, i started to wonder if gao4 bai2 (takin initiative to tell guy u like him) was the trend in taiwan schools. In guess! guess! guess! the taiwanese variety show, they oso spoke of such stuff as if they are very common.like writing a love letter, bakin food etc. I dun seem to see it around singapore schools. perhaps mine is the older generation. Will i have the guts though? i dun think so. Cos i m a passive person. Plus mabbe scared kena rejection? But i will definitely drop hints if i like the person. Hopin he will get it. What are the chances then? Perhaps the other person oso waiting? But i always feel that the guy should make the first move. Girls will feel very flattered. Ladies still like to be treated like ladies despite clamouring for equality. Such contradiction.

plans vs new life

How we had arranged to have dinner at merchant court and things turned out otherwise. The funny thing was that when someone suggested goin to merchant court for buffet dinner, i said great cos i had not been there b4. Then, it was mentioned that the bestest dish was the durian mousse. absolutely yummy. Erm, sounded familiar. After i had reached home, it suddenly struck me. I had been to that place b4. It was for the congress celebration! Gosh, my memory's failing me. It could not be so coincidental that two different places served good durian mousse. Anyway, i remembered the fried ice-cream and the durian mousse only. That must mean the rest of the food was only so-so.

This morning, we agreed tat it was not worthwhile to go to merchant court. So, someone suggested goin to settler's cafe. The place where u can play board games at the same time. Cool, right? I haven been there though. It will definitely b fun. In the end, we din get to go either. Cos we were doin lab till almost 830pm. The strange thing was that we started earlier! Wonder why....

Since we were all hungry elephants, we went to the nearest place for dinner. Chose spizza in holland v. Great! another food outlet i have tried. Miss foodie loves to try new foods. Slurp. More fantastic places to try? Jio me leh!

All of us @ spizza! missing one intern though....must get a family portrait the next time round Posted by Picasa

Aiwo

Tried a new food outlet, Aiwo, at Raffles City. Aiwo means love yourself in chinese. It was tucked away in a corner of the shopping mall. Perhaps that was why I knew about this place from the newspapers, not from walking around the mall. The attraction of this place is that it promises to serve healthy food. It refrains from using any ingredients that are considered "unhealthy" such as saturated fat, high density carbohydrates, dairy, MSG and sugar. Sounds great, right? Especially for weight-conscious ladies like me.

We opted for the conveyor belt buffet. 14 dishes to choose from. each dish is less than 50 calories. Of course, as a buffet queen, i must sample all 14 dishes. Plus repeats of the more delicious ones. Slurp. the fish dishes were all pretty good: salmon, dory, grilled fish. The garlic chicken was better than the grilled chicken which was too dry. My favourite was the mushrooms. Ate five plates in all. Kept requesting for dawang to take mushrooms from the conveyor belt tat she wanted to take all the plates for me....

After a healthy meal, we proceed to eat healthy ice-cream at gelare. How we love to deceive ourselves. too much healthy food= unhealthy? but i did feel good about the low calorie buffet dinner plus the low fat ice-cream.

Nicer people

It takes time to get to know people better. Especially if you start to work together on a project. So it was much fun that ten people could do labwork at one time. Though it was crowded at times. Felt as if i was goin to suffocate in the small cell culture room with so many of us squeezed in. Ten people doing two plasmid extractions. Quite hilarious when you think about it cos usually one person can even do 6 extractions at one time. Gosh. Talk about efficiency. Many hands make light work??? haha. But its the learning journey which matters.

Besides work, we oso chat and gossip. Gossips can trulybond people together. Having common public enemy. though a bit bad at times. ok ok shouldnt gossip about others too much.

Plus the interns who manage to get hold of top secrets always share them with the rest of us. Thanks so much. Life definitely will get better

happy ever after

after the horrible day of rushing out my report till 4 plus in the morning and someone finally lending a helping hand, the days seemed to go by in a flash. will it be happily ever after?

there are so many things to consider. the future, wat i truly wan, my own personal well-being. perhaps that is why people need to meditate. some time to reflect on life and reassess our priorities. wat we wan and wat people expect of us may be different. how do we reconcile that?

once choices have been made, we have to live with them. good or bad. i guess an optimist will always see opportunities in life and be happy. so my upcomin two presentations are meant for me to learn more. since we are students, we are not expected to know everything. that should be comforting. hope things go well.

Roller coaster ride

It's been a horrible week thus far. No time to spare. And overwhelming emotions to handle. So angry that i felt no tears this time. I wanna cry but no tears came up. All the pent-up frustration is not let out. Feel the wound-up tension in me, waiting to be released. Dun noe wat the trigger will be though. I just wanna get this over and done with. I made the choice, so i have to bear the consequences.
