off to bath roman bath and abbey part one 21april

Yes we are going to bath. after reading about the beautiful sights in bath from the guidebook. the lonely planet guidebook has served us well. saw this guy/gal on the train. i thought was a gal but H thought was a guy. H was right. cos the guy behaved a bit guyish like diggin his nose and the way he was eating. he sure looked pretty. nowadays metrosexuals. guys looking like girls. or even prettier. anyway he seemed to know we were staring at him and moved to another seat. we tried to look discreetly.... we really did.

there is a beautiful looking park behind the train station. we would go there if time permitted. the sights were closer than we thought. it looked further on the map. compared to cambridge. but was actually closer. after walking for a while we reached the main touristy area. we attempted to find recommended places to eat while walking to the city centre. that is wat piggies love to do. sadly, we din see any.
first attraction that we passed. thermal spa. already crowded in the morning. the thermal spa is beside this monument. not in the picture. there was a queue at the counter. i had actually wore my coat for fear that it would be as cool as the morning in cambridge. i was wrong! now i could camouflage among the brown coloured buildings.

we had some time to spare before meetin the guide at the pump room. there are free guided tours around bath! freebies. you get a much better understandin of the place with a guide. how nice and it's free. we walked around the roman bath museum-the part which is free. could see the bath area from the viewing gallery. dun really need to go in. the water looks murky and green. no longer in use. you can try spa water from the cafe in the museum. of course not the murky disgusting one. the potable one is from another source.

next we walked over to the bath abbey. the bath abbey is not completed yet (as told by the guide later). the abbey was commissioned by the king. cant remember which one. he had a dream about angels climbing to the sky and to build a church.
see the angels climbin up the ladder. fallen angels too. the upside down ones.... spot one in this picture. strange.

the king also left his signature on the abbey. the crown the olive tree and the church. something like that.
The interior:
Stained glass. The famous one is on the east side. 56 pieces depicting the life of jesus christ.
the back of the abbey.our guide explaining. the guides are senior citizens. and they seem to enjoy bringin tourists around. he kept mentioning they were doing their bit for
the tourist industry. the town relies on tourism for revenue.

15 april new phone and hk cafe

My phone was spoilt and i had to get a new phone. Rushed out of the house once I thought the shops were open. It was a sunday. most shops did not open too early. i went into whichever phone shop that was open. darting in and out of the shops.....

since i had a vodafone sim card, i tried to find a phone from the shop at oxford st. but alas, the phone i had taken a fancy to was not available at this branch. the sales assistant told me to walk further down to the bigger branch. He was quite helpful. however, he failed to tell me that the shop only opens at noon. When i reached the big vodafone shop, it was still closed. so frustrating. thus, i decided to walk back home and have lunch first.

After filling my stomach, i continued with my search for the phone. At the big vodafone shop, i bought the cheap phone that i saw at cambridge. simple phone with no features. no camera no mp3 nothing. 30 pounds. cant expect much. but its small. nice to carry around. anyway, in london, i carry my camera around. dun really need a camera phone. i like the pink samsung phone though. more ex. plus my contract in singapore is ending soon. can get a new phone in a few months' time.

If i had known i would have so much trouble gettin the phone at oxford st, i would have bought it in cambridge. just that i would have to lug it around with me. its strange that we are back to square one after one enormous turn. how much time do we have to spend before we realise that?
Back home to meet H and then source for possible holiday options. Walked over to goodge st to check out sta. found some weekend trip packages. isle of wright sounded beautiful. the lady said she could only confirmed the places on monday. (not available anymore. all places were taken up)
early dinner at the hong kong cafe. the piggies love to eat. source for reasonably priced and yummy food. that is our quest.

duck's tongues. very chewy. interesting eat. it was such a coincidence that H and I were eyeing the same dish as something to share. the luncheon meat beehoon. luncheon meat sure tasted good. hmmm.

portuguese rice was what i ordered. with tumeric powder. like the powder used in indian dishes. it actually did not taste very creamy. unlike the ones i had in singapore. prefer this version in this cafe. and of course i must have the yuan yang. kopi with tea. slurp.

walked home from picadilly circus. famous display boards at piccadilly.

we tried a new route. passing through old bond st and new bond st. expensive shops lining the streets. can only see and no buy. sad.
