A week flies by

Cant believe another week has gone by. It's a short week cos its a longer weekend.
Horrible week in the lab. The hplc and i had bad affinity. refused to cooperate with me. Our peaks were chopped off or peaks too small with dilution. Giving me a bad time. And the next group needs to use it asap. Cos all of us need to have more time to run repeats for hplc and prepare for bioreactor presentation.
In general, machines and i dun get along. No bond. Hiaz.....

Three times

Watched three times at the picturehouse in cathay cineplex with two colleagues. The cinema was not very packed. Probably cos it has just reopened and most of the tenants of the shops have not settled in. I was curious about the cinema cos of the revamp it has undergone. It has become just like any other cinema. Candy mould used for all cinemas.

Picturehouse is only showing three times. Think it is the only art film around at this time? It will be bringing other films in soon. Three times is a trilogy of love stories set in 1966, 1911 and 2005. The film is directed by hou hsiao hsien. he was awarded the 2005 golden horse award for best filmmaker. The lead actress, shu qi, won the best actress award.

The first story (1966. a time for love) describes a sweet love story. Chen meets May at his favourite pool-hall. Then he leaves for national service. On a free day, he comes back and looks for her. But she is gone.....

The second story (1911. a time for freedom) is a typical story of that time. Mr Chang is concerned with freeing taiwan while his favourite courtesan is concerned with her own freedom. It is styled after a silent movie. The characters talk and then the subtitles come out.

The third story (2005. a time for youth) is a modern time love story. With the kissing scenes in your face. The previous two love stories only have scenes of holding hands. Such a contrast.

Shu qi is a fantastic actress who hones her craft each time. She has such onscreen presence. Chang Chen is so good-looking, in a manly way. Din realise that till today. Eye candies in shows are always welcome.

Most embarrassing day of my life

This sounds like an essay you write when you are in primary school. Up till today, i have yet experienced anything so embarrassing. Make a guess? It has something to do with the MRT station. Previously, i got stuck in a gap on the floor and broke my strap. I had to walk to work in a funny manner.
Today was the ultimate. While i was boarding the train, my shoe hit upon the ledge of the train. And next, it was missing from my foot. The man standing beside me said,"I think your shoe has fallen into the hole." To my horror, i saw a bit of my shoe trapped in the gap between the ledge and the train.
Immediately, i stepped out of the train and walked semi-barefooted to look for help. I saw a station staff nearby and approached him.
"er, my shoe has dropped down the railway track."
Staff A replied,"Don't worry. You just stand aside and relax."
I thought: how to relak? so embarrassing. the commuters on the platform are piling up and they see this girl without one shoe
Staff A radioed for help and soon staff B appeared with a snake catcher. When the train had gone, he used it to hook up my shoe.
Yay, shoe rescued.
So MRT staff are essential. A BIG thank you. But then i had to fill in a form about their level of service. I complied cos they had helped me. I wrote: professional in their management (cos they din laugh at me. then again, mabbe something like that had happened before)
any embarrassing tales to share?

Focused with work

I feel focused when there are lots to be done. There is a mental checklist that i cross out once i have accomplished the task. Time is better spent when you have a goal you wanna pursue. As i grow older, i learn to appreciate time more. Life's a time-limited journey and i have been asking myself wat i wan lately. I wanna do something useful during my period on earth. Bring happiness to those around me and contribute as much as i can. Yeah endless things to do.
